Hospitality and interior designer Adam Tihany is to design various indoor and outdoor areas of Seabourn’s new ship, which is due to launch in 2016.

Tihany is the art director of the Culinary Institute of America and sits on the advisory board of the New York School of Interior Design and the Holon Design Museum. He will design a range of indoor and outdoor spaces onboard Seabourn’s newbuild including multiple dining venues; the Spa at Seabourn; showrooms; casino and lounges; outdoor deck areas; and the popular Seabourn Square multi-purpose space.

“Adam Tihany’s artistic sensibilities are a wonderful match with Seabourn,” said Richard Meadows, Seabourn’s president. “His designs convey the essence of ultra-luxury with a vitality that is lively and exciting, yet perfectly embodies the relaxed elegance that has always been the heart of Seabourn’s hospitality.”

Tihany, who is renowned for his luxury hotel projects and restaurant projects for high-profile celebrity chefs, such as Heston Blumenthal, will draw inspiration from Seabourn’s existing ships, luxury offerings and preferences.

“What I strive to do is to find an aesthetic that expresses the personality of the brand,” said Tihany. “Thus, my goal is to design a beautiful, and very uniquely Seabourn ship. One that will reflect Seabourn’s aura of casual elegance and thoughtful attention to detail, that will make their guests feel welcome and invite them to experience Seabourn’s special brand of ultra-luxury.”

Based on the line’s three existing Odyssey-class vessels – Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Sojourn and Seabourn Quest – the 40,350 gt newbuild will feature an additional deck and expanded public areas. The unnamed vessel will accommodate 604 guests at double occupancy and offer a high ratio of space per guest, while each suite will have a private veranda.

The ship will be built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri and is expected to provide a much-needed boost to Seabourn’s capacity following the sale of the Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Spirit and Seabourn Legend. The three older ships will be transferred to Windstar Cruises over the next two years.

Tihany has previously worked with Holland America Line and this March, he will publish Tihany: Iconic Hotel and Restaurant Interiors. The book, published by Rizzoli, illustrates his work on Grand Epernay, the main dining restaurant on Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Solstice, as well as his a range of other hospitality design projects.
