Around 80% of people still believe cruise holidays are for guests over the age of 65, according to a recent survey by Travelbag Cruise.
Travelbag’s study indicated that only a small minority of those surveyed believed that cruise are for couples, families and young groups.
However, while Travelbag Cruise’s sales data indicated that cruise holidays are popular with older generations, it also showed that there has been an increase in the number of younger travellers booking cruise holidays. This is largely attributed to the fact that more operators are focused on providing family-oriented facilities and activities. Earlier this year, Travelbag predicted a growing number of families would book a cruise in 2015-2016.
“Our research demonstrates that the perceptions of a cruise holiday still don’t match the reality, giving plenty of opportunity for cruise companies to change these opinions and show the world what cruising is really about,” said Sean Keddy, head of marketing at Travelbag Cruise.
Around half of the respondents aged between 18 and 24 would choose a cruise to see more destinations in the world, while 40% would be tempted to go on a cruise due to the growing number of onboard activities.
However, 15% of people aged between 35 and 44 claimed that there was nothing to do on a cruise, compared to 10% in all of the other age groups.
