BBC viewers were able to gain a behind-the-scenes look at the work of Southampton-based marine interior refurbishment company Trimline, during a recent episode of its documentary series ‘Sea City’.
Enabling viewers to gain an insight into the port of Southampton, the episode showcased Trimline’s refurbishment and repair work, which was carried out on Cunard’s 148,528 gt Queen Mary 2 during a day turnaround at the port.
Led by contract manager Jo Raven, Trimline’s team completed the work in a seven-hour timeframe as part of its maintenance contract with Carnival UK, which operates Queen Mary 2 through the Cunard brand. Trimline’s team recarpeted, recovered furniture, repaired the laminate flooring in the spa, cleaned marble and completed survey work.
“Completing the work in so few hours, is always a logistical challenge,” said Raven. “We have to carefully plan our work and routes around the ship to allow for passenger luggage and embarkation – with so many decks and people onboard working to turn the ship around, it can get quite hectic.”
Gary Oliver, managing director of Trimline, added: “The ‘Sea City’ series really focuses on the level of detail that is involved in the work Trimline does; from the time it takes to navigate the ships complex system of staircases and decks to the careful repair and maintenance of so many areas of the ship.”
