Southampton-based marine interior refit company Trimline has completed a comprehensive six-month refurbishment project onboard Thomson Cruises’ 33,3930-grt Thomson Celebration.
The renovation project began in November 2012 and was largely completed while the vessel was fully occupied and operational. This required Trimline to collaborate with the 520 crew members to ensure the noisiest work was limited to periods when the ship was in port and to minimise the use of public areas.
Trimline’s 45-strong team fitted carpets, curtains, bedding and installed televisions and kettle facilities in 478 cabins. The company also installed new sofa beds to maximise space in the ship’s deluxe cabins and upgraded 624 bathrooms with new tiling, fixtures and fittings from Grohe, as well as vanity units with Italian stone tops.
“Given the scope of work and the number of Trimline staff, the manner in which the team were managed throughout their stay on the vessel was a credit to the company,” said John Westgarth-Pratt, Captain of Thomson Celebration. “The communication and co-operation Trimline established with the ship’s company throughout the project was excellent.”
Commending Trimline’s cooperation with the onboard crew, Gary Oliver, managing director of Trimline, said: “This project demonstrates that with good communication between all stakeholders, large-scale accommodation refurbishments can be undertaken successfully on the run whilst in service, instead of having to wait for sometimes years between dry dockings, thus keeping the vessel in tip top condition and meeting passenger expectations.”
Following the upgrade, the 1,250-passenger vessel has been added to Thomson Cruises’ Platinum collection.
