Southampton-based outfitter, Trimline, has secured the contract to refit the soft furnishings on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2.
The firm, which completed the original work on the 150,000 GT vessel in 2004, has been asked to replace the soft furnishings and carpets in all of the ship’s 1,310 staterooms, with the refit to be complete in time for the liner’s eighth birthday in January 2012.
The contract represents a huge logistical operation for the company, needing 6,000 separate items and 25,000 metres of fabric to complete the renovation.
Once ready, the furnishings will be shipped to Hamburg where the ship will undergo a two-week refit at the Blohm and Voss yard before returning to restart passenger operations from her Southampton homeport.
“In the same way that we supplied the original soft furnishings, this will match the biggest manufacture and fitting programme that we have undertaken and has already involved a major project management task involving our in-house specialists and suppliers,” said Trimline sales and marketing director Mike Oliver. “We have considerable experience working for Cunard, ranging from regular refurbishment work to large one-off projects, and this prestigious project will ensure that the highest standards are maintained on one of the world’s biggest liners.”
