TTS Group has been contracted to supply multiple passenger walkways for a new cruise port development in Stockholm, Sweden.
The company is to design and install walkways – that will be blend with the architecture of the new terminal building – as part of a large-scale urban development project, which involves rebuilding the city’s largest port, Värtahamnen and expanding Värta Pier.
Through its Gothenburg-based subsidiary, TTS Port Equipment, around 600 m of fixed walkways and six movable gangways will connect with incoming vessels docking at the new cruise and ferry terminal.
“For us this is both an exciting and important mission,” said TTS Port Equipment senior sales manager Håkan Jönsson. “The scale of the project, in terms of the length and number of fixed and movable gangways, along with the number of contractors that will be on site means many activities will be underway simultaneously in a limited space. The port will also be fully operational throughout the redevelopment period.”
The central part of the fixed walkway will be constructed on two levels, with escalators and elevators for transfer between the floors. Electric or hydraulic drives will operate the movable gangways vertically and horizontally.
As well as modernising the port, building additional berths and creating efficient areas for transportation, the 85,000 m2 development of Värtahamnen is designed to free up land for building a new city district including shops, homes and offices.
The entire project – a joint venture between the Port of Stockholm and City of Stockholm – is to be completed in 2016.
