Trondheim in Norway is to welcome return visits from TUI Cruises and Cunard Line in 2016.
Similar to 2015, Trondheim is scheduled to handle 50 calls in 2016, including Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 and TUI’s Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 5, which will make a total of six visits. The port also expects the ships to bring an additional 22,000 passengers.
AIDA Cruises has also booked six calls between February and April 2017.
“We are happy to see how 2017 numbers are developing,” said Maria Kuhnl, cruise coordinator Trondheim Havn.
This year, Trondheim surveyed around 2,000 passengers – 7% of its total 2015 visitors – during 26 of 50 cruise calls to find out more about their visit to the city.
The survey found that 58% of respondents had made purchases, spending an average of €21 on shopping, food, entry tickets and public transport. The figure does not include shore excursions.
According to the survey, almost 100% enjoyed their visit to Trondheim, highlighting Nidaros Cathedral, the old town (Bakklandet) and Kristiansten Fortress as the highlights of their visit. The ‘atmosphere, local people and cleanliness’ were also key highlights.
Trondheim is also working hard to improve its shore excursion programme and will add its first family programme next summer, alongside more active tours.
“We are now trying to find winter products and encourage others to come off-season,” said Kuhnl.
