TUI River Cruises officially christened the second ship to join its fleet, TUI Skyla, before she embarked on her first ‘Mistletoe and Rhine’ sailing.
The ceremony was officiated by corporate captain Marco Menke and the ship’s godmother, college exam officer Catherine Hawkins. The top deck of the ship was styled in the theme of a ‘Winter Wonderland’ to celebrate the occasion, with igloo-style pods, a live choir, hot chocolate and mulled wine. Sparklers lined the quayside as TUI Skyla departed, signaling her official entry into the river cruise line’s fleet.
The ‘Mistletoe and Rhine’ voyage will call at several German cities, including Cologne, Dusseldorf and Koblenz, where guests will be able to visit local Christmas markets. Passengers will also be able to take part in Christmas activities, drink mulled wine and try regional Christmas dishes while onboard.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the second ship to the TUI River Cruises fleet on our first festive sailing of the year,” said Chris Hackney, managing director of cruise for TUI UK. “The feedback we have had from guests sailing on TUI Maya, which launched back in August, has been incredible so we’re delighted to offer even more to our guests and we’re looking forward to completing the fleet with TUI Isla next spring."
