Viking Cruises is set to launch 14 longships in 2014 after confirming an order for two additional vessels.

The 190-passenger ships, which will sail European itineraries, feature a range of stateroom and suite accommodation and an all-weather, indoor and outdoor Aquavit Terrace with retractable floor-to-ceiling glass doors. The vessels also have solar panels and energy-efficient hybrid engines to improve sustainability and reduce vibrations.

“We are working hard to match supply with demand and with these newbuilds and we have the best designed, newest and most extensive offer of ships on the rivers,” said Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking Cruises. “More than ever, travellers want experiences that bring them closer to the destination, which is why we continue to design ships and itineraries with destinations and enrichment as the focus.”

Viking set a world record when it simultaneously inaugurated ten longships in Amsterdam in March and will have introduced a total of 30 new ships over a three-year period by the end of 2014.
