Carnival Cruise Line is to debut two new musical productions onboard the new Carnival Panorama, which will sail her inaugural voyage on 11 December 2019.
‘Rock Revolution’ and ‘Broadway Beats’ will make use of dancing drones, which will interact with special effects and a range of songs from the Woodstock era and musical theatre to add a new element to the show experience.
“When planning Carnival Panorama’s Playlist Productions shows, we challenged ourselves to think more creatively than ever before to find ways to ‘wow’ both our long-time guests and those sailing with us for the first time,” said Kerry Stables, creative director of Carnival Productions. “From performing drones to new music genres and a keen attention to costuming, décor and theme details, these shows prove how innovative our productions have become and raise the bar on our offerings in a fun, creative and unique way.”
‘Rock Revolution’ will be a concert-style show inspired by the Woodstock Festival in 1969, paying tribute to artists such as Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Led by artistic director Jonathan Tessero and choreographer Rudy Abreu, the show will feature a horn trio and a three-person rock band playing illuminated drum sets while the dancing drones fly throughout the theatre.
‘Broadway Beats’ follows a band of entertainers as they travel through New York’s famous neighbourhoods, as signature landmarks of the city appear on hyper-realistic LED screens. Directed by award-winning Broadway director Peter Flynn and choreographed by Marcos Santana, the show mixes the sound of the city and electronic dance music with new interpretations of Broadway’s greatest hits.
The new shows will join previous offerings ‘Soulbound’ and ‘Celestial Strings’ as part of the Carnival Panorama’s entertainment line-up, which also includes an adaptation of the Paramount TV series ‘Lip Sync Battle’ and a South Beach-inspired Serenity Nights party.
After Carnival Panorama’s inaugural three-day voyage, the vessel will sail year-round seven-day cruises along the Mexican Riviera, calling at destinations such as Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta.
