Mexican operator Ultramar has taken delivery of the second in a series of 48-metre-long catamaran passenger ferries from US shipbuilder Midship Marine.

Designed by Australian company Incat Crowther, Ultramar II has a roof deck with seats for 264 passengers and a mid deck with exterior seats for 203 passengers, 52 indoor premium seats, a full-service bar and a stage for musicians. The main deck has a child-friendly area, a refreshment bar, 64 premium seats and regular seats for 264 people. The vessel’s interior design includes aquarium-themed feature walls and glass pieces, decorative ceilings, multi-colour underwater lighting and polished stainless-steel handrails.

Ultramar II is powered by a pair of MTU 16V4000 63L main engines and has an upgraded propulsion package offering additional speed and power over her sister, Ultramar.

The vessel will operate on the Playa de Carmen – Cozumel route.
