Update: Carnival Legend

Update: Carnival Legend has been operating at a reduced speed of 19 knots and was scheduled to arrive in Tampa on the morning of 17 March, before departing again in the afternoon.

The technicians will continue to make repairs, while the ship is expected to operate its normal itinerary, replacing calls to Grand Cayman with visits to Costa Maya. Guests who do not wish to travel due to the itinerary change have been given the option to cancel and receive a full refund.

Carnival Legend has been forced to cancel its call at Grand Cayman due to a technical issue with one of its Azipod units, which has reduced the vessel’s sailing speeds. The ship, which was in the final stages of its seven-day Caribbean cruise, will now sail directly to its Tampa homeport, where it is expected to arrive on 17 March as scheduled.

Despite the ship’s slow speed, all safety systems and hotel services are functioning normally, while passengers were able to visit Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Cozumel and Costa Maya earlier in the week.

Guests on the current voyage will receive a US$100.00 per person credit, as well as a full refund on pre-purchased shore excursions for Grand Cayman. Carnival has also offered passengers a 50 per cent discount on a future cruise.

Legend is the second Carnival ship to experience technical difficulties this week, after Carnival Dream was forced to remain at the Port of St Maarten due to a problem with its backup generator on 13 March.
