Verdict still out on QE2 redesign

Seven design firms, including New York company BG Studio, are still in the running to be chosen to redesign the interior of the iconic Queen Elizabeth II (QE2) ocean liner.

Earlier this year, QE2 Holdings – which now owns the ship – announced it would be turning the former Cunard liner into a luxury floating hotel. It invited interior architecture companies to come up with new proposals for the interior design and published seven design bids on its website from Benoy, BG Studio, Dsign Vertti Kivi, Jerde, Ong & Ong, Santarossa and Wilson Associates.

Over the last few months the public has been voting for its favourite design. According to the QE2 Holdings website, the winner is due to be announced imminently.

Cosco Shipyard Group will handle the refurbishment project at its yard in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, China. Work will involve converting over 900 staterooms into 400 luxury suites ranging in size from 60 to 150sqm and is expected to be completed in 2015.

We’ll be following this story as it develops, so check back soon to find out which design has been selected.
