Victoria Harbour Ferry and Greater Victoria Harbour Authority are to develop a new James Bay passenger service at the Breakwater Barge at Ogden Point in Victoria, Canada.

Named James Bay Quay, the new barge stop will be inaugurated on 1 August and will be serviced by the 40-passenger James Bay Explorer every hour, connecting Breakwater Barge to Fisherman’s Wharf and the Steamship Terminal in the Inner Harbour. The vessel will also carry bikes and dogs.

The trips will depart from the Steamship Terminal on the hour between 1-9pm from Monday to Saturday, while Sunday sailings will be from 11am to 7pm to accommodate the number of people that are expected to visit the new Breakwater open air market.

Ogden Point is also a popular port of call for cruise ships and is expected to welcome 230 cruise calls and more than 513,000 passengers this year. On 29 July, it welcomed its six millionth cruise passengers – Victoria and Joseph Winthal from San Francisco in the US –when Princess Cruises’ Golden Princess berthed at the terminal. The Winthals, who arrived as part of a family of 14, were greeted by a traditional First Nations dance by the Lekwungen and Esquimalt dance groups. They were then presented with prizes and were also able to enjoy a complimentary visitor experience donated by local business and tourism partners.
