Viking Grace was delivered to Viking Line on 10 January, scheduled to enter service on 15 January 2013. The ship was ordered in December 2010 and was constructed at the STX Finland shipyard at an estimated cost of €240 million.
Representing a ‘new generation’ of passenger ship, Viking Grace is the world’s first large passenger vessel to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), which reduces nitrogen and sulphur emissions and other greenhouse gases. The ship also has a hydrodynamically optimised hull to reduce swell waves, and energy-efficient propulsion machinery to ensure it is as environmentally sustainable as possible.
Viking Grace will operate between Finland and Sweden and has been specially designed to travel in the shallow waters of the archipelago.
