Viking Line has partnered with award-winning Finnish chef Michael Björklund to offer exclusive menus onboard its ferries this year.

Known for his appearances on popular Finnish TV programme ‘Strömsö’, Björklund has was voted Chef of the Year in Finland in 1997 and in Sweden in 2000. Today, he runs his own restaurant, Smakbyn, in Kastelholm, Åland.

Björklund has designed the A Taste of Smakbyn menu, which will be offered in à la carte restaurants from 2 March until 30 April. In May, select Viking Line restaurants offer another exclusive menu designed by Björklund to accompany sparkling beverages.

“I’m pleased to help select and present our fantastic Åland taste experiences to Viking Line’s passengers,” said Björklund. “Viking Line provides Åland residents with an important connection to the mainland. At the same time, it’s a close and familiar company to me, since many of my friends and relatives work on its vessels.”

The chef’s menus will offer dishes featuring ingredients from the Åland archipelago, including whitefish and elk, while the beverage menu will offer Åland apple wine. The onboard buffet restaurants will also feature local Åland delicacies.

Guests will also be able to buy Åland delicacies, such as muesli, mustard and apple compote from Smakbyn.
