Viking’s newest ship for the Nile River, Viking Osiris, has been floated out at Massara shipyard in Cairo, Egypt.
Set to debut in August 2022, Viking Osiris will sail Viking’s 12-day ‘Pharaohs & Pyramids’ itinerary, including destinations such as Cairo, Luxor, Qena, Esna, Aswan and Edfu.
“Our guests are curious explorers, and just as the iconic explorers before them, they choose Egypt as a destination because of its unparalleled access to history and antiquities,” said Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking. “Particularly during this milestone year for Egypt, we look forward to welcoming guests onboard Viking Osiris and introducing them to the country’s many cultural treasures.”
The arrival of the new ship will coincide with the opening of the new Grand Egyptian Museum on the Giza Plateau, near Cairo and the 100th anniversary of the discovery of King Tutankamun’s tomb by Howard Carter and his benefactor, the fifth Earl of Carnarvon. Guests who sail onboard Viking Osiris will be able to visit archives and exhibits not normally accessible to the public and view the earl’s private collection at Highclere Castle in the UK as part of Viking’s ‘Privileged Access’ excursions.
Viking Osiris has now been moved to a nearby outfitting dock for final construction and interior build out.
