Viking is to expand its Egyptian river fleet with the launch of Viking Aton in September 2022, which will sail along the Nile River on Viking’s ‘Pharaohs & Pyramids’ itinerary.
Viking Aton will have capacity for 82 guests in 41 staterooms, all of which will have river views. The ship will also feature a pool and sun deck with 360-degree views, a Viking Lounge with floor-to-ceiling glass doors and Viking’s Aquavit Terrace for al fresco dining and sightseeing along the Nile River. Viking Aton will join Viking Osiris, which is set to launch in 2021, and Viking Ra, which launched in 2018, in the Egyptian fleet.
The 12-day ‘Pharaohs & Pyramids’ itinerary begins with a three-night stay at a first-class hotel in Cairo, Egypt. Guests then fly to Luxor to visit the Temples of Luxor and Karnak before boarding a Viking River ship for an eight-day roundtrip cruise on the Nile River, with excursions to sites including the Tomb of Nefertari in the Valley of the Queens, the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings, and the Temples at Abu Simbel.
“Egypt remains a top destination for many of our guests who are inspired to discover the rich history and beauty of the region,” said Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking. “We will always maintain our commitment to creating meaningful experiences that are focused on the destination. The addition of Viking Aton is a reflection of our continued investment in Egypt; we look forward to introducing the country’s cultural treasures to even more Viking guests in the future.”
