The Spanish port of Vilagarcia, which is located northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, has joined Cruise Europe
Although it does not have a passenger terminal, 3,126 passengers and 12 cruise ships called in 2011, while 2,000 passengers and seven ships visited in 2012. Six vessels are expected to call at the port’s Comercial Oeste, Comercial Norte and Comboa quays during the 2013 season.
“At the moment, smaller cruise ships are calling, but the port can accommodate ships up to 260 metres in length, bringing about 2,000 to 3,000 passengers at a time,” said Patricia Gonzalez Nunez of Vilagarcia’s Port Authority.
Vilagarcia Port Authority arranges local trips for cruise lines, enabling passengers to visit the historic town of Cambados, Arousa Bay, Ruta Marítima Xacobea and Santiago de Compostela, a popular Catholic pilgrimage destination.
