Royal Caribbean International’s Harmony of the Seas features the world’s largest marine exhaust gas cleaning system (scrubber) installation, which was provided by Wärtsilä.
The newbuild, which recently embarked on her inaugural cruise from Barcelona in Spain, features two of Wärtsilä’s hybrid scrubbers, which can operate in both open- and closed-loop mode using seawater to remove sulphur oxide from the exhaust gas. to minimise sulphur oxide emissions. This allows the vessel to comply with emission control regulations worldwide.
Harmony of the Seas is also powered by four 12-cylinder Wärtsilä 46F engines and two 16-cylinder Wärtsilä 46F engines, while four CT3500 transverse thrusters enable it to be manoeuvred easily.
Meanwhile, Wärtsilä installed its NACOS Platinum navigation and dynamic positioning systems, CCTV systems, and electrical and automation solutions. These include a light dimming system for all public venues, a dimming system for the suites, and a low resolution LED wall for the theatre.
“We are proud to have been selected to provide a comprehensive scope of Wärtsilä solutions and we wish good luck and success for the vessel throughout its lifecycle,” said Fred Danska, director of Cruise Business at Wärtsilä Marine Solutions.
Harmony of the Seas has also been included in Wärtsilä Genius’s existing technical management and service monitoring agreement with Royal Caribbean.
