New equipment will help Italian passenger ferry to reduce environmental footprint

Italian ferry operator Moby is to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of its passenger ferry Moby Zaza by replacing her 30-year-old propulsion equipment with new products from Wärtsilä.
Wärtsilä provided four new auxiliary generating sets with digital automatic voltage regulators, seawater systems with complete cooling circuit that allows operating in high sea water temperatures, exhaust gas system silencers and fuel systems.
The company will provide technical support to the yard during the equipment installation and systems integration phase, as well as the onsite commissioning and sea trials to ensure that all systems perform well.
“Wärtsilä is a key partner of our group,” said Vincenzo Onorato, chairman of Moby. “The company’s competence and quick reactions capability will allow us to have the vessel back in service with minimum downtime.”
Built in 1982 with 288 passenger cabins and capacity for transporting 480 cars, Moby Zaza is the last in a series of successful repowering projects that started with Moby Corse and continued with Moby Kiss.
