P&O’s Pacific Pearl was the first ship to berth at Sydney Ports’ new AUS$57 million White Bay cruise terminal on 15 April 2013.
The terminal enables Sydney to host three cruise ships at once and accommodate the increasing demand for cruise visits to the port.
“We are just coming to the close of what has been another record Sydney cruise season with 265 ship visits and we have already taken more than 280 bookings for next season,” said Duncan Gay, roads and ports minister. “Given the unprecedented growth in cruising, this new terminal is very timely indeed – its vast open plan arrivals and departures hall are designed to cater for 2,400 passengers at a time.”
Pedestrians and cyclists can now access the waterfront adjacent to the terminal on non-ship days, while the terminal itself will be used as a part-time function centre for community events.
The NSW Government will now review a AUS$30 million plan to upgrade the
Overseas Passenger Terminal.
