Windstar Cruises will be completing an US$18 million fleet-wide refurbishment when its final two cruise yachts enter drydock in Portugal, in November 2012.

Company flagship, the 310-passenger Wind Surf, will be in drydock at the Lisnave shipyard for five days from 21 November, while 148-passenger Wind Spirit follows for a two-week upgrade from 25 November.

Both sailing yachts will be receiving updates to public areas including new furnishings, upholstery, art, lighting, wall coverings, carpeting, ceiling finishes, window treatments, and floor coverings.

Windstar Cruises CEO and president Hans Birkholz said: “We are looking forward to having our whole fleet enter 2013 with an elevated feeling of private yacht style and we want to continue to offer the best vacation experience possible on board our unique sailing yachts.”

Wind Star, the sister yacht to Wind Spirit, was fully renovated in April 2012 while the staterooms and suites of all three yachts were refurbished in autumn 2011 and spring 2012.

“We've had really positive feedback from the renovations on Wind Star,” said Birkholz. “Our guests are also really excited to see the enhancements to the remaining two yachts; our advanced bookings are already 50 per cent ahead of last year at this time.”
