Wollongong is to welcome its first-ever cruise ship in 2016 when Royal Caribbean International’s Radiance of the Seas calls at the Port of Kembla in New South Wales, Australia.

The 293m Radiance of the Seas is due to bring more than 2,400 people to the Illawarra region in October 2016 as part of a seven-night East Coast and Tasmania cruise. The ship will spend the day in port, allowing tourists from Australia and other markets to take day trips to the Illawarra’s beaches, city and attractions, and enjoy other planned activities.

It is expected that the visit will generate a total of AUS$890,000 for local tour operators.

Radiance of the Seas’ visit is the first step in establishing an ongoing relationship between Royal Caribbean, Port Kembla and the Illawarra region. The cruise line will also use the visit to explore the feasibility of using Port Kembla as an alternative homeport when Sydney Harbour is too congested.
