Cruise & Ferry Review - Autumn/Winter 2020
2 1 7 “Cruise Port IJmuiden is ready to welcome cruise ships and passengers, following 1.5 metre distancing regulations in and outside our terminals. Of course these operations can only start when ships and crew are in good shape and fully operational. We are currently open for service calls and several cruise ships take the opportunity every month to come into our port for crew changes, maintenance, bunkers and stores. Also, it gives the crew some time for rest and recreation on solid ground. We are all set to restart cruise operations at any time!” Ruben Straathof operational terminal manager Felison (Cruise) Terminal “The port and the city of Dubrovnik are jointly investing efforts in rebuilding cruise tourism, discussing and preparing local protocols and guidelines in the destination of Dubrovnik in accordance with the EU guidance for cruise ship operations. The port has provided lay-up accommodation for two cruise vessels during this challenging period and we are looking forward to post-Covid-19 resumption of cruise operations, hoping that this world crisis will be short-term and expecting full market recovery in 2021.” Katarina Varez research & development advisor Dubrovnik Port Authority “The Port Authority of Valencia is working in coordination with its cruise community to prepare for the new normality and to receive passengers as soon as the Spanish administration gives the green light to cruising. Questions like the importance of being informed and working in tune to anticipate the resumption of the activity, readapting the business opportunities in shore excursions and the implementation of all the safety and security measures have been widely discussed during these recent months. Valencia is committed to new offers that are not overcrowded and focused on providing safe and secure experiences for cruise tourism.” Francesca Antonelli Ibáñez marketing manager Port Authority of Valencia “Port Canaveral has supported several cruise ships with provisioning and fuelling needs, and in their efforts to repatriate crew members to home countries. As the cruise industry plans for the resumption of sailing in US waters, we have been actively engaged with homeported cruise lines in developing plans to resume passenger operations. The port adopted enhanced cleaning protocols and there will be changes to passenger queuing areas to promote social distancing and to support cruise lines’ modifications to embark and debark processes. Our planning has included multiple cruise industry stakeholders and partners. Our collective goal is to safely resume cruising and build consumer confidence in the safety of their travel experience.” John Murray, CEO Port Canaveral Left, social distancing measures have been introduced at Port of Poole and, below, enhanced cleaning protocols in action at Port Canaveral
