3 8 MARKETWATCH Hitting the waves As new health and safety measures are put into place, ocean and river cruise lines are slowly beginning to return to service in Europe MSC Grandiosa was the first ship from the MSC Cruises fleet to return to service on 16 August. The first guests embarked at the port of Genoa, Italy, with the ship calling at the Italian ports of Civitavecchia, Naples and Palermo, followed by Valletta, Malta. Costa Cruises is to restart cruise operations in September, with two new itineraries reserved for Italian guests visiting Italian ports. Costa Deliziosa will leave from Trieste on 6 September, followed by Costa Diadema’s departure from Genoa on 19 September. River cruise line AmaWaterways resumed operation in Europe with a series of charter sailings in July. AmaKristina welcomed 100 guests onboard, with cruises currently limited to European residents.
