However, as you’ll read in this issue, the industry is coming together to tackle these issues head on and ensure it re-emerges stronger and more resilient than ever before. Many key industry players are sharing their knowledge and expertise to help steer the sector through this crisis, including Cruise Lines International Association. We are proud to support the organisation’s #WeAreCruise campaign in this issue, which also highlights how many other key players in the passenger ship design sector are preparing for the inevitable bounce back of the industry. Our keynote with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.’s Sascha Lang and Paris Swann provides a rousing introduction to the 2020 issue on page 12, where they share how collaboration helps to create innovative ships. Their passion for design will inspire our readers, as will the insights from the seven experts in our lead feature on page 40, which explores how the seven key pillars of interior design come together to create a harmonious space. Elsewhere, Volume Creative discusses its sustainable design approach in our cover story on page 36, and various cruise and ferry operators give an insight into the innovative interiors onboard their newest vessels. Plus, we explore how the expedition cruise sector is changing in interviews with SunStone Ships’ Niels-Erik Lund and designer Tomas Tillberg on page 100. I’m also delighted to announce our new alliance with the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers, which kicks off in earnest with a feature from the organisation’s leadership team on page 80. Closing the issue is our Design Legend interview on page 140, where we speak with GEM founder Giacomo Mortola, a doyen of the design industry. He provides valuable insights into how practices in cruise ship interior design have evolved since his first project in 1974. Fair winds and following seas.
