Cruise & Ferry Interiors 2021

5 0 Art and architectural features “There are two approaches to incorporating artwork in interior design. One focuses on using integral architectural elements such as screens, chandeliers and textured features, while the other involves curating a collection of existing artwork. When incorporating architectural features, we often work with local artisans and craftspeople to create unique and exclusive pieces that reflect the project ’s heritage and location. If we’re curating a collection, we work closely with the client to agree on the artistic direction and concept. For P&O Cruises’ Britannia, we curated a collection of art from British artists and each piece reflected the line’s brand values (integrity, accountability and responsibility) and played a vital role in enriching the ship’s identity through design.” FEATURE: COLL ABORATION Terry McGillicuddy, Director at Richmond International Barbara Bressem, Managing Director of Dauerflora International Bringing interiors alive with foliage “Foliage can greatly enhance the onboard experience. When it comes to indoor areas, lush live plants can be a great choice, but only if they are expertly cared for and regularly replaced. Good quality artificial plants can also be an effective choice. Not only do they look like real plants, but they are also very versatile and have the advantage of being low maintenance. Meanwhile, preserved plants that offer the natural look of living plants can make beautiful exclusive decorations. For outdoor areas, we would recommend our recently developed attractive palm trees made of seawater-resistant steel. They survive adverse weather conditions for a long time, unlike most other live or artificial plants.”
