Cruise & Ferry Review - Spring/Summer 2021

1 4 0 FEATURE “One of the interiors I’m most excited about is the Science Centre onboard Sylvia Earle, which is one of a series of vessels we’re designing for SunStone Ships and will be delivered to Aurora Expeditions in 2021. The Science Centre epitomises everything Sylvia Earle is about – enabling guests to experience the wonder of discovering our oceans and marine life in person rather than on television. The aurora polaris on the ceiling above the central desk serves as a reminder of the destinations the ship visits.” Tomas Tillberg, Managing Partner of Tomas Tillberg Design International Alan McVitty, Founder and CEO of M Studio “Guests sailing on A-ROSA’s new river cruise ship E-Motion (which will debut in March 2022) will experience a ‘wow’ moment when they see the family cabins we have developed in collaboration with the cruise line. We have taken a new approach to cabin design to ensure they are suitable for both adults and younger guests, so the interiors are playful yet sophisticated. All guests will be able to find a special nook to enjoy during downtime on their cruise.” Photo: JOI-Design Barbara Wiethoff, Senior Interior Designer at JOI-Design “M Studio creates the ‘wow’ factor by developing design concepts with glamourous high-gloss lacquer finishes and mirrors that echo the luxury of high-end boutique yachts and evoke a subtle art deco style. A great example is the Britannia Club Restaurant onboard Cunard’s Queen Victoria, where we carefully selected every item, material and furnishing to construct a contemporary, multi-layered art deco-style interior that reflects the brand’s heritage and complements the guest experience. The carpets, for example, were inspired by images in Cunard’s archives.”
