1 4 6 REPORT Engineering environmental responsibility TecnoVeritas is working with Mystic Cruises to ensure that its expedition vessels are compliant with the IMO’s latest environmental regulations With the introduction of new environmental regulations by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under Annex VI of the MARPOL convention, Mystic Cruises contracted marine engineering firm TecnoVeritas in November to upgrade its four World Voyager-class vessels and ensure that they comply with the stricter requirements now being placed on vessels. TecnoVeritas has made the World Voyager class compliant with IMO Tier III emission levels by reducing fuel consumption by 10 per cent and emissions of nitrogen oxides by more than 80 per cent, helping to make cruises onboard the ships more environmentally friendly. Furthermore, the upgrades to the vessels will bring them in line with the requirements of the Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index, which measures the efficiency of a ship compared to a baseline standard, and the Carbon Intensity Indicator, which determines the annual reduction needed to ensure continuous improvement of the ship’s operational carbon intensity within a specific rating level ranging from A to E. The work onboard Mystic Cruises’ vessels has anticipated compliance with the implementation of these regulations by several years, leading the transformation of the cruise industry. Advanced remote monitoring systems installed, allow for real-time monitoring and optimisation of fuel consumption and emissions. The cruise line has also implemented the BOEM platform developed by TecnoVeritas onboard the World Voyagerclass vessels. BOEM is a cloud and ship platform connecting shore and vessels in real time, providing services for technical management, ship performance, voyage optimisation, crew management, reports and documents, purchasing, ticket management, and dry docking. The platform can interface with most accountancy software, enabling it to achieve integration with existing systems. As a result of the upgrades provided by TecnoVeritas, the World Voyagerclass vessels are now achieving significant savings in fuel and emissions. The ships sail more smoothly and swiftly, allowing guests to enjoy visiting highly sensitive areas such as Antarctica with a lower environmental impact.
