1 4 2 REPORT Optimising vessel operations A cloud-based multitasking platform from TecnoVeritas is helping ship operators to improve productivity Delivering timely information is fundamental for marine operations teams as it enables them to make accurate decisions correctly and promptly. This spurs fleet productivity. Companies have been digitalising these operations for some time, but in some cases the technology has been implemented in an ad hoc manner resulting in a variety of applications, interfaces and environments. This mixture of systems and lack of interconnectivity can lead to data that is either incorrect, out of date, or missing. This can make it difficult to accurately analyse the vessel’s operational data, which has a negative impact on the decisionmaking process and on fleet production. To help operators overcome this issue, marine engineering solutions and services provider TecnoVeritas has developed the Blue Overall Efficiency Monitoring system (BOEM). The multitasking platform aims to help operators increase the productivity of their vessels and reduce the crew learning burden while maintaining data security. BOEM recently received type approval certification from Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore. BOEM is a cloud-based tool that uses artificial intelligence to provide ship operation stakeholders with an overview of the business. The platform is used to generate quick and accurate decisions and maximise vessel operations. BOEM is a customisable product that is currently being used by cruise and cargo vessels. The platform has a variety of tools, including those for monitoring and analysing maintenance requirements, energy emissions, compliance, fuel and crew management, documentation, budgeting, dry dock, route simulation and oil consumption. Typically, it takes less than a day for one officer to learn how to use BOEM, as it has a uniform user experience and there is no need to deal with interfaces of data between tools, without the need of ‘spreadsheets’. For example, a fuel consumption report may be sent ashore, so that the shore staff can easily organise bunkers, or the vessel’s emissions compliance can be permanently monitored and logged, allowing for prompt action if needed. BOEM can boost ship efficiency by empowering crew, ship management and ports through a collaborative process based on timely data. CFR
