GATEWAY PORT TO CANADA’S LAKE SUPERIOR NORTH COAST visitthunderbay.ca/cruiseships The Port of HaminaKotka has reported visits from 13 international cruise ships to the port and surrounding Kotka-Hamina region from the end of May until mid-August 2023. Visitors so far this summer have come from the USA, South America, Canada, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Germany and Great Britain. The port has welcomed over 20,000 cruise guests and crew members to visit Port of HaminaKotka to experience the Kotka-Hamina region this summer. The average occupancy rate of the cruise ships visiting this season has been over 80 per cent. The cities Hamina and Kotka, as well as local entrepreneurs, have, in close collaboration with the Port of HaminaKotka, coordinated a wide range of services to cater to international guests. Visiting cruise passengers and ships have a positive image and economic impact on the local economy. Photo: Port of HaminaKotka Port of Keelung expects passenger rebound amid continuous investment The Port of Keelung in Taiwan is expecting cruise passenger numbers to recover to 30 per cent of pre-pandemic levels in 2023, and to 80 per cent in 2024, as the regional cruise industry continues to recover after Covid-19. The port, which is operated by Taiwan International Ports Corporation, has continued to invest in the renewal and expansion of its cruise terminals during the pandemic, as well as launching initiatives to promote Asian ports in Europe, the United States and Japan. As a result, Keelung received its first post-pandemic calls in March 2023, while its efforts were recognised by the Asia Cruise Leaders Network with the presentation of a Special Achievement award at the annual Jeju Cruise Forum held in Korea.
