[ 90 ] THE SHIP OF THE FUTURE The Kitchen is a new catering offering, serving fresh hot fast food on an ‘order to collect’ basis. Among the choices are burgers, battered haddock, chips and chicken nuggets as well as hot and cold drinks presented in a similar fashion to major high street fast food chains. The style and decoration is again light and airy, being reminiscent of that of the Food Market one deck below. Thanks to the protruding double-height windows, a two-deck atrium is created, connecting the Deck 8 Food Market with The Kitchen and commercial drivers’ restaurant on Deck 9. For fire safety reasons and acoustic comfort, the Deck 9 ‘balconies’ are screened off by floor-to-ceiling windows, still guaranteeing breathtaking views through the glass curtain wall on either side. Entering The Kitchen from the Dover-end stair lobby, there is a corner for families. Boasting a small children’s play area, it is separated from the main seating area by dividers. Deck 9 midships is also where the main galley is located with two service lifts bringing food down to the Food Market’s twin delivery galleys. BOUTIQUE BAR The ship’s main bar has been rebranded The Lounge Bar. On the Spirits this was the Family Lounge as it had the children’s offer in the same space with play zones and TVs. Consequently, it was perceived to be chaotic, busy and noisy with children running back “ Passengers were expecting a bar lounge where families and children would still come, yet with an adult feel”
