The Ship Of The Future - an industry celebration

[ 96 ] THE SHIP OF THE FUTURE Calais-bound direction), being accessed from the Dover-end stair lobby. Having two separate Quiet Lounges, one with 90 reclining seats and the other one with 107, allows for some flexibility as one of the lounges can be closed on so-called light sailings. The ferry equivalent of the Quiet or Silent Car on trains, customers had told P&O Ferries that “busy changed everything”. They were asking for a quiet area where they could relax away from the crowd (on Deck 8). Here, passengers need to respect the silence and they are reminded about this policy through decorative illuminated ‘Shhhh’ wall texts. The specially designed reclining seats face the sea and each armrest comes with two USB-A ports. The recliners also boast trays in the armrests, the bottom of which is open so that items can fall through and will not get lost. The TVs remain in silent mode while vending machines are packed with a wide selection of tasty snacks and drinks. THE PET LOUNGE — P&O FERRIES’ USP First introduced on the Spirit and Darwinclass, the Fusion-class has a dedicated lounge for passengers travelling with their dogs. Located on the starboard Calais-end of Deck 9, P&O Pioneer is the first ship in the P&O Ferries fleet to have a separate Pet Lounge integrated into the general arrangement. The supplement to use The Pet Lounge includes free hot and cold drinks that are available from the self-serve ‘Coffee Corner’ which also holds a vending machine for quick snacks. As part of their entrance “ Signage and a giant dog’s footprint painted on the central casing show the shortest way to the Pet Lounge with an elevator from the Deck 7 car deck giving direct access to it”
