The Ship Of The Future - an industry celebration

[ 49 ] “ The company’s inhouse developed cloud system streamlines vessel operations by allowing the monitoring of various systems, such as the local network, access points and the OT infrastructure onboard. This can all be done remotely and supports a wide range of business applications” Chinese shipyards, being built upon Hongfan’s years of experience, guiding medium- to large-size shipyards. The internet of things (IoT) is more prevalent than ever. The use of smartphones, but also modernised security systems, calls for highspeed wired and wireless connections, both locally and to the internet. This challenge is complicated by the increasingly datahungry applications for which internet access is required. Passengers expect to be able to stream video in high definition, without visible artefacts or hitching. Hongfan’s solutions make IT (Information Technology) and OT (Operational Technology) coincide seamlessly, providing high-end technologies that benefit both passengers and crew. The company offers access points with WiFi 6, a modern standard that is better at managing traffic and boasts an improved range. This results in a greater wireless network bandwidth and better meshing of the wireless network. Hongfan also supplies IP CCTV systems for fully in-the-network-integrated video surveillance, making it easier for security staff to oversee the entire vessel. Also provided is ACS for easy zoning control and crowd management as well as a GSM system to ensure cellular service and mobile data connectivity onboard. All this is interconnected with a bandwidth of 10Gb/s to accommodate a greater user capacity and cover a larger area, requiring less support in the process. SHIPBUILDING The company’s in-house developed cloud system streamlines vessel operations by allowing the monitoring of various systems, such as the local network, access points and the OT infrastructure onboard. This can all be done remotely and supports a wide range of business applications. The cloud system also makes it possible to keep track of passenger and crew activity, collecting vessel-wide telemetry. By virtue of the entire system being standardised, it is extremely user-friendly. The platform can be easily adapted to suit P&O Ferries’ needs, making for a costeffective and flexible system that can scale to meet demands and follow any business growth.
