[ 61 ] SHIPBUILDING “How will the market develop and how to address the challenges?,” he wonders, adding: “We aim for the best, strive for excellence and remain agile. With multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural employees we firmly believe that NSO is on the right track to become the shipowners’ and shipyard’s preferred turnkey interior contractor. Having all these bright minds combined into a single contractor is quite unique. This is also why we were confident to take on the challenges of the P&O Ferries project. Working for a shipbuilder like GSI, with operations led by VP William Zhou, is always very productive and rewarding. The people at P&O Ferries really knew what they wanted. Add to this an efficient shipyard, OSK Design’s naval architects and Fusion-class interior architects, and one comes to the conclusion that it is not too difficult for a company like NSO to do a good job. The Fusion-class ships are every inch fantastic vessels that are here to stay for many years to come!” NSO’s Marketing Manager, Robert ‘Bobby’ Rust, highlights the excellent cooperation and understanding between GSI and NSO. “Our history with GSI only stretches some six years but both sides have shown much confidence in each other and really seem to enjoy taking on new challenges and new projects together. When two parties are communicative and professional, there can only be a win-win for all.” Bobby’s colleague, Peter Sampson, is NSO’s Lead Designer who feels honoured to have been part of the close-knit team who built the Fusion-class. “As an Englishman I obviously take great pride in being part of P&O Ferries’ newbuilds,” he says. “P&O has an important place in British maritime history and they continue that tradition with these innovative new vessels, which will delight passengers and bring changes to the industry. Considering that these vessels have been built during the COVID-19 pandemic, and related lockdowns, it is even more impressive.” Notwithstanding all the COVID-19-related challenges, NSO managed to deliver two high-quality interior packages for P&O Ferries to schedule and to the owner’s expectations. NSO feels proud of having taken part in this amazing project. From all of us at NSO, a big thank you — we wish the Fusion-class ferries fair winds and following seas! “ Our history with GSI only stretches some six years but both sides have shown much confidence in each other and really seem to enjoy taking on new challenges and new projects together.
