Disney Cruise Line has revealed details for the design of Disney Wish, the first of three new ships being constructed for the cruise line by 2025.

The ship has been designed around the concept of ‘enchantment’, with Walt Disney Imagineering taking inspiration from fairy-tale castles, forests and animals, and the sea.

“Enchantment is about unlocking the wonder in everything we do and experience,” said Laura Cabo, portfolio creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering. “For Disney Wish, we are creating a signature design language that exudes this emotional magic like only Disney can, by infusing every inch of this enchanted ship with more Disney stories and characters than ever before. Disney Wish will be a place where families really do get to wish upon a star.”

Like other Disney Cruise Line Ships, Disney Wish will feature two character art pieces on her hull. Filigree artwork on the bow will depict Captain Minnie Mouse for the first time, while the stern will feature a custom sculpture of Rapunzel and her chameleon Pascal from the film Tangled.

The cruise line also revealed details of the Grand Hall onboard the ship, which will feature Gothic, Baroque and French Rococo design influences in its three-storey columns and chandelier hanging over the atrium. A bronze statue of Cinderella will be located at the base of the grand staircase, with other tributes to the film including railings with stained glass in Cinderella’s signature colours, carpeting embellished with characters from the film and references to her carriage and glass slipper in the metalwork and light fixtures in the space.

Disney Wish is currently under construction at Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. Further details on the experiences and itineraries for the ship will be revealed in a virtual event on 29 April.
